Going Boldly into a New Frontier - Nissan Redesigns Its Mid-Size Pickup Truck
The 2022 Nissan Frontier is taking the mid-size pickup truck segment by storm. Redesigned after 15 years, the new third-generation is everything that a modern mid-size truck should be, and more.
While capable and efficient, the Frontier had been lagging behind its competition, including the Ford Ranger. But the new 2022 Nissan Frontier easily bests its competitors thanks to upgrades in every aspect from technology to bodywork to powertrain. The Nissan logo and the Frontier nameplate are the only indicators that the 2022 model is the same truck as the previous generation.
What's New for 2022
The only thing that remains the same on the 2022 Nissan Frontier is the framework. If it isn't broke, there is no need to fix it! But everything else was rebuilt from the ground up, including the suspension, body, cabin environment, technology, and more.
Models and Pricing
The 2022 Nissan Frontier is available in Orléans and across Canada in five trim Levels: S, SV, SV Convenience, SV Sport, and Pro-4X. Starting at $39,998, the entry-level S trim offers plenty of standard features, including an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as plenty of driver-assist technology.
The base model is only available in a King cab version with a long bed, but other trim levels offer a crew cab configuration. The best value is found in the SV trim level, which adds heated front seats and steering wheel, dual-zone automatic temperature control, and remote engine start system for a small increase in base price.
The 2022 Nissan Frontier is built with a new naturally aspirated 3.8-litre V6 engine that produces 310 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque, which is more than enough power to rocket this mid-size pickup truck on city streets or highways.
Off-road capability is found in the Pro-4X model with its all-terrain tires, off-road performance shock absorbers, underbody skid plates, and an electronic locking rear differential. When properly equipped, the 2022 Nissan Frontier can tow up to 2,943 kg.
Every model of the 2022 Frontier gets a Nissan Connect infotainment system controlled by a colour touchscreen display. All models except the Pro-4X feature an 8.0-inch display while the Pro-4X receives an upgraded 9.0-inch display. Every model comes with standard connectivity features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and several charging ports.
One of the best upgrades to the 2022 Frontier is the inclusion of Nissan's Safety Shield 360 suite of driver-assist technologies on all models. Nissan wants to ensure that all drivers are confident and protected in its vehicles, so the all-new Frontier includes intelligent emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear automatic braking, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, and high beam assist.
